Gee, according to Scientific American women aren’t whiners!

December 30, 2011

I just read an article from Scientific American.  “Why Women Report Being in Worse Health than Men” was published on the Scientific American website today.  The article reports a study published December 16, 2011 in the European Journal of Public Health.  Researchers Malmusi, Artazcoz, Benach, and Borell in Spain studied self reports of women and men concerning their perceived state of health.  Women reported significantly worse health than men.  However when number of chronic conditions was compared, women were found to have more than men.  So both the women and men in the study reported a state of health proportional to their number of chronic health problems.  Here’s a great quote from the abstract for the study publication: “At equal number of disorders, women reported equal or even better health than men.”

Food for thought!
