You can’t fool kids. They know a good lunch when they see one!

May 25, 2012

Today I read an article on Yahoo News describing a Scottish girl’s blog about the lunches served at her school.  NeverSeconds is written by a 9 year old girl, with a little help from her dad.  She has become quite famous and now has readers from all over the world.  Each day she posts a picture of her school lunch and describes it in charming detail.  She then rates the food for tastiness and healthfulness and tells how many bites there were and whether she found any hair in it.  I hear so far she hasn’t found any.  Another feature of her blog is pictures of school lunches sent to her by people around the world.  It’s interesting to see what they are serving in places like Taiwan, Japan, and here in the US.

As a result of the international attention this blog has garnered, the school has changed it’s lunches to include more fruits and vegetables.  The children are also now allowed as much fruit, vegetables, and bread as they want.  In today’s post she tells us that the school states that has always been their policy but none of the children knew.  Hmmm, uh huh, yeah.

It’s exciting to see people effect change through such simple methods.  It gives me hope for bringing about changes myself, even if only in small ways.  We don’t have to put up with being given sub-standard food or sub-standard health care.  Let’s all make our small contributions to the well being of all society!
